The GNMI Sudbury clinic was designed to reflect both the technical requirements of a diagnostic imaging facility and a strong connection to local context. Drawing inspiration from Indigenous culture and the surrounding natural landscape, the space introduces warmth, texture, and meaning into a clinical environment.
OUR GOAL
The design aims to create a welcoming and culturally responsive healthcare setting while maintaining operational efficiency. Through thoughtful planning and detailing, the clinic integrates clinical functionality with elements that resonate with the local community, supporting both patient comfort and staff workflow.
Organized Spaces
The layout clearly defines public and clinical zones, ensuring an intuitive flow from entry to treatment areas. In the lobby, an ornamental millwork feature subtly separates the reception desk from back-of-house workspaces, balancing openness with privacy. Supporting areas, including change rooms and imaging suites, are positioned to maximize efficiency while maintaining a comfortable and discreet patient experience.
Creative Approach
In the lunchroom, Studio Forma employed creative flooring and wall paint designs to fashion a cozy lounge area, evoking a sense of nature indoors. Custom millwork, adorned with murals echoing the outdoors, not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal but also fostered collaboration among team members, creating a welcoming and conducive environment for shared ideas and innovation.
Summary
GNMI Sudbury represents a thoughtful adaptation of a diagnostic imaging clinic that responds to its local context. By integrating Indigenous-inspired elements, natural materials, and a calming spatial approach, the design delivers a healthcare environment that is both functional and culturally meaningful.
